The aim of the project is scientific research and learning about the characteristics of the language of Serbs in Hungary. The project will collect information about Serbian inscriptions in places with a Serbian population (photo documentation) and the attitude of the Serbian community towards Serbian inscriptions, as well as from the side of the self-government. For this purpose, we will conduct a survey. Researching the linguistic landscape is a relatively new area of sociolinguistics that is developing very quickly. It is a scientific branch that is especially important in the research of minority languages. The results of such research help the cooperation of minority communities and the state in the realization of minority language rights.
The project was presented at the Language Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences on May 23, 2013, as part of an international conference on the linguistic landscape.
Project collaborators: Dr. Marija Ilić, ethnolinguist at the Balkan Institute in Belgrade and Pera Lastić, director of the Serbian Institute in Budapest.
