Sava Tekelija and his era in the mirror of modern science : collection of papers: on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of Sava Tekelija's birth, edited by Pera Lastić and Zoltan Bada, Serbian Institute: Budapest, 2013.
The collection contains papers from the conference “ Sava Tekelija and his era in the mirror of modern science ” held in Budapest on November 25, 2011 on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Sava Popović Tekelija (1761-1842). The aim of the conference, in addition to marking the anniversary, is to present the life work of this Serbian great “in the context of his time and the state, or rather the society, in which he lived (Hungary, the Habsburg Monarchy, Europe)” ( Pera Lastić: Preface, p. 9. ), which has so far received insufficient attention. It is also of great importance that Hungarian scientists were included in the conference for the first time, as well as the organizers’ effort to present the entire spectrum of Tekelija’s work. Sava Tekelija was not only a patron and founder of the Tekelianum, as is commonly believed in our country, but his contribution was also significant in the fields of law and politics, his activities at the Timisoara Council, ethnology and linguistics. The program of the conference was also based on the desire to spread knowledge about Tekelija among the Hungarian public, as well as in the Serbian community outside the former Habsburg monarchy. The papers from the conference were contributed by authors from the Serbian community in Hungary and Romania, four Hungarian scholars, and the rest from Belgrade, Novi Sad and Sombor. The proceedings have been expanded in relation to the content of the conference, in order to obtain a more detailed picture of Tekelija's work.
It should be especially emphasized that the collection contains exceptional pictorial material, all works are accompanied by photographs and paintings. Among them, those interested will also find a wealth of new materials, such as Tekelija's drawings, or the Charter granting nobility to Jovan Popović Tekelija.
The publication of the collection was supported by: the Ministry of Human Resources of Hungary, the Self-Government of Serbs in Hungary, the Serbian Self-Government in Budapest, and the Serbian Self-Government of the Third District of Budapest.
