2021 – SAVA TEKELIJA AND HIS ERA

Bilingual exhibition about Sava Tekelija.
The author of the exhibition is Pera Lastić.

Sava Tekelija (1761–1842) , perhaps the most famous Serbian benefactor north of the Sava and Danube, a nobleman from Arad, president of the Matica Srpska and founder of the Tekelianum in Pest, the most important institute for young students and students studying in the capital of Hungary, is an emblematic and perhaps the most respected and celebrated figure in the history of Serbs in Hungary. The visual and textual presentation of his life path, and especially his work, through the exhibition is certainly suitable for strengthening the identity – especially of the younger generation – of members of the Serbian community in Hungary. At the same time, Sava Tekelija is among the few meritorious Serbs from this region, who are also highly valued by Hungarian historiography due to his openness to cooperation with Hungarians.
