Evgen Dumča (1838 – 1917) was one of the most important figures of the Serbs in Hungary during the period of the so-called Dualism, which lasted from the year of the Austro-Hungarian Compromise (1867) until the end of World War I and the collapse of the Habsburg Monarchy (1918). He stood out as a Serbian businessman, financial expert and politician, and one of the greatest Serbian benefactors of his time. He is best known and most prominent today in Hungarian circles as the celebrated first mayor of Szentendre, who spent more than three decades at the helm of the city.
