With the support of the Serbian Institute in Budapest, a book by Dr. Boris Stojkovski has been published: Emperor Jovan Nenad – The Life, Work and Legacy of the Black Man. The author of the book has reinterpreted historical sources, studied some that are almost unknown to this day, and thus completed the story of one of the most enigmatic figures in all of Serbian history, but also in the history of the area of present-day Vojvodina, Hungary, Romania and a good part of Europe that knew about him.
“The mysterious personality of John Nenad, a charismatic leader who claimed to be the heir to the Byzantine emperors and Serbian despots, and who gathered numerous supporters around him and organized a significant, predominantly Serbian military movement in Hungary, attracted great attention from his contemporaries, as well as modern historians, writers and publicists. […]
A thorough analysis of the sources and the breadth of his scientific views enabled the author to comprehensively present scientific knowledge about the personality and movement of "Emperor" Jovan Nenad, pointing out certain misconceptions and misinterpretations of sources in earlier historiography, as well as to provide some new interpretations of numerous issues related to the research of the topic. […]
Stojkovski's book is written in clear and precise language and possesses all the qualities of a good historiographic monograph. It is a significant contribution not only to Serbian, but also to the historiography of Central and Southeastern Europe. "
